Investment calculations were generated by multiplying the installed capacity by year by the average installation cost for that project type for that year. Utility investment rates per watt were applied to installations greater than 10MW.

Health Impact by Age
Asthma prevalance percentages by age group by state courtesy of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) cdc.gov/asthma and were applied to census block groups and recalculaed to population counts, then aggregated to matching age groups. These new percentages were applied and aggregated to district level population by area ratio. These totals were summed to estimate expected asthma cases annually. National asthma rates by age were applied to Iowa as the CDC has no state specific asthma rates for Iowa.
Estimated Annual Healthcare Costs of Asthma
Estimated asthma costs were calculated by the study referenced below, based on a per person annual average of $3,259 (Barnett SB, Nurmagambetov TA. Costs of Asthma in the Unites States: 2002-2007. Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. 2011; 127:145-52.)
Residents Without Health Coverage
Uninsured population counts were applied without modification from the Census American Community Survey 2009-2013 ACS 5-Year Data, available at census.gov/acs/www/data/data-tables-and-tools/data-profiles and aggregated to district level population by area ratio.
Air Quality Index
Air Quality Index layer was derived from daily AQI values for 2014 from the EPA Air Data aqsdr1.epa.gov/aqsweb/aqstmp/airdata/download_files.html. These data were averaged for 2014 and used to create a Voronoi surface.
